This study analyzes the output characteristics of a Ground Power Unit (GPU) used to supply electrical power to the ATR 72-600 aircraft, focusing on direct current (DC) voltage, current, and power parameters. The research is motivated by the crucial role of airports in mobility and economic growth, and the essential function of GPUs for aircraft ground operations. The ATR 72-600's reliance on external power sources, due to the absence of an internal Auxiliary Power Unit (APU), serves as the primary justification for this investigation. The research methodology employs a quantitative descriptive approach through comprehensive field observation. Data collection was conducted directly on a TLD GPU-4060 unit connected to an ATR 72-600 aircraft. Primary data were supplemented by technical interviews and relevant literature reviews. Data analysis utilized mathematical calculations to evaluate the GPU's output conformity with the aircraft's technical electrical specifications. The analysis results indicate that the GPU's DC voltage ranged from 27.8 to 28.3 V DC, consistent with the aircraft's specifications (25-28 V DC). Observed currents varied between 100-150 A, yielding actual power consumption of 2.82–4.25 kW. The GPU's continuous power capacity (28.5 kW) significantly exceeds the aircraft's actual power consumption during ground operations, suggesting light load operation and minimal overload risk. Field observations did not identify overvoltage or undervoltage conditions, confirming the effectiveness of the aircraft's Bus Power Control Unit (BPCU) in maintaining stability and protection. However, the GPU's capability to provide high peak current (up to 1,275 A for starting engine) is crucial to prevent operational disruptions.
