Damage to conductor cables on the low voltage network (JTR) is one of the problems that often occurs in the electric power distribution system, especially in heavy load areas such as the East Medan ULP. One of the main causes of this damage is an overload that exceeds the current carrying capacity of the cable. This research aims to analyze the causes of cable damage at distribution substations due to excessive loads and provide a technical solution in the form of adding an insert transformer as a countermeasure. The methodology used includes collecting substation load data, current measurements, and mapping the existing condition of the JTR cable. The analysis results show that the addition of insert transformers at high load points can reduce the current flowing in the cables at the Jaya Substation 248.12 A to 124.06 A, the Sluice Substation 263.46 A to 11.73 A, the Sei Kera Substation 289.12 A to 144.56 A, thus extending the life of the cables and reducing the potential for damage. By implementing an inserted transformer, load distribution becomes more even and the system becomes more reliable.
