The type of research in this journal is normative legal research, meaning this research tends to use secondary data consisting of primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. This study is directed towards normative legal research. The data obtained from the research are grouped according to the issues and then analyzed qualitatively. Qualitative analysis implies that the analysis does not depend on the quantity of data based on numbers but rather the data analyzed are described in sentence form. Investigators have the authority to carry out coercive actions including summoning, arresting, detaining, confiscating, searching, and examining documents as regulated in Law No. 8 of 1981 on Criminal Procedure Law, Law No. 2 of 2002 on the National Police of the Republic of Indonesia, and Chief of Police Regulation No. 14 of 2012 on Criminal Investigation Management, which are further elaborated in the form of SOP in the National Criminal Investigation Agency Regulation No. 3 of 2014. Law enforcement against investigators who make procedural errors needs to be conducted impartially to create adherence to procedures and applicable legal regulations, as well as public compliance with the law. Revisions to clearer regulations regarding investigative procedures and specific legislation regulating the mechanism for holding investigators accountable for procedural errors are necessary.
