This research uses a qualitative approach with document analysis, in-depth interviews, and case studies to explore the implementation of alternative punishments in Indonesia. The research was carried out by collecting data from various stakeholders, including law enforcement officials, legal practitioners, and prisoners, as well as reviewing related literature and existing regulations. Research findings show that although there is great potential for alternative punishments in reducing prison overcrowding, there are various challenges that need to be overcome, including inadequate legal frameworks, skeptical public perceptions, limited resources and infrastructure, and expanded inter-agency coordination. However, there are several successful cases that demonstrate the significant benefits of alternative punishment, both for criminals and society at large. This study recommends the need to revise and refine regulations regarding alternative punishments, increase public education to change negative perceptions, increase investment in resources and infrastructure, and develop better coordination mechanisms between relevant institutions
